Temporary Connections News

Updates and insights for job seekers and employers.

It is our job to make sure that clients understand all the costs, liabilities and exposure that they defer when using a staffing company for temporary and temporary-to-permanent placement.  A Harvard study found that 80% of employee turnover was attributed to bad hiring decisions.  The Labor Department estimates it can cost an average of 1/3 of a new hire’s annual salary to replace that person.  Most of staff turnover occurs in the first 2 t0 3 weeks, especially in manufacturing.  When a business does not use a staffing firm, it incurs the front-end costs of recruiting – bringing people on board and training them – only to end up losing many of them.  When using a staffing company, though you will lose productivity when there is turnover, you will not lose the up-front costs associated with sourcing, screening and placement.

According to a CareerBuilder survey, 75% of companies said their bad hire resulted from the need to hire someone quickly.  Instead of rushing to a decision, bring a temporary in to fill the gap until the right person is found.  A good staffing firm will know the client and be involved in proper orientation, pre-employment screening and “after-placement” coaching to reduce turnover.  We strive to be that staffing firm by coaching our workforce in order to improve retention.  Who knows, our temporary could be just the employee you were seeking!
